Title: Phineas Gage

Author: John Fleishman

Genres: non- fiction

Phineas Gage, a railroad worker, in the middle 1800’s, was in a horrible accident with his tamping iron and blasting powder.  Despite having a life changing brain injury Phineas had a “complete recovery.”  In his not so lucky accident Phineas helped scientist to learn more about the brain.

This message is all about luck and if Phineas was lucky or not.  The author thinks that he was, but I don’t.  He was not one bit lucky other then the fact that he lived.  On the other hand, scientists were the most fortunate out of the whole event because of all the important discoveries they made.

In this story I really liked that it was really narrative.  I recommend this to science teachers and people who like to learn about the brain.  I think some kids would also like this if they like gross things.
